So you’ve moved into a new place and it just doesn’t feel like home yet. Here are my tips to decorate your space, make it feel like you, and ultimately, make it feel more home-y.
- Visualize your ideal end result. To do this, you can find photos or videos of what styles you like online, in magazines, etc. Once you know what you want, that is when the real work begins! While looking through all your saved photos, notice what makes them all similar. Is it their color palette, the materials used, the overall vibe? Start replicating that look with each purchase you make.
- A huge part of making a home feel cozy is texture. Playing with different textures can also evoke different styles while keeping items to a minimum. For example, if you love the beachy look, go for beachy textures such as rattan, linen, cotton, etc. While nothing in your home is specifically beach themed, you will evoke the feeling of being at the beach with materials around you.
- Use natural fabrics. Speaking of materials, they are so important in your homemaking process. I love to work with natural fabrics in my home. Not only is it higher quality, but it’s better for the environment as well as you body! Constantly washing synthetic fabrics in your home lead to micro-plastics in the air that are then breathed in. Ick!
- Stick to eye level lighting at night. Eye level lighting is more controllable than overhead lighting and it can be great to use for entertaining or just winding down! It’s sets a much calmer ambience in your home and preps you for a good night’s sleep!
